The Board of County Commissioners adopted the Smart Charlotte 2050 Comprehensive Plan on July 20th. The information now needs to be transmitted to the Department of Community Affairs for review. The review will take approximately 55 days, after which the Department will issue a notice to find the plan "in compliance" or "not in compliance". After the notice is issued, if the decision was to find the plan "in compliance" there is a 21 day waiting period during which a citizen with standing may challenge any component of the plan. If there are no challenges then the plan is official after the 21 day period.
While the plan is not yet official, because it was adopted by the Board, the Growth Management Department is required to provide review of development items based on the Smart Charlotte 2050 Plan as well as the 1997-2010 Plan.
